Manual Bleeding

MANUAL BLEEDING - MASTER CYLINDER AND WHEEL CIRCUITS

The master cylinder and wheel circuits be bled using a conventional manual method of bleeding. Manual bleeding is normally a two-person operation,
with one person required to pump the brake pedal and the other to perform operations at the calipers.

1. Depressurize the hydraulic accumulator by pumping the brake pedal a minimum of 25 times.

2. Connect a transparent hose to the caliper bleed screw. See illustration. Submerge the free end of the hose in a clear glass container which is

partially filled with clean, fresh brake fluid.

3. Vigorously pump the brake pedal several times, using full strokes of the pedal. After several strokes, continue to hold pressure on the pedal,

keeping it at the bottom of its travel.

4. With pressure on the pedal, open the bleed screw 1/2 to 3/4 turn. Leave bleed screw open until fluid no longer flows from the hose. Tighten the

bleed screw and release the pedal.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until clear, bubble-free fluid flows from the hose.

6. Repeat the above sequence at each of the calipers. Calipers should be bled in the following order:

A. Right Rear
B. Left Front
C. Left Rear
D. Right Front

Pressure Bleeding

PRESSURE BLEEDING - MASTER CYLINDER AND WHEEL CIRCUITS

Tool Required:

J-35789 Bleeder Adapter

The master cylinder and wheel brake circuits may be pressure bled using a standard diaphragm type pressure bleeder. Only diaphragm type pressure
bleeding equipment should be used to prevent air, moisture and other contaminants from entering the system. The following procedure should be used
for pressure bleeding of the master cylinder and wheel circuits.

1. Ignition should be turned off and remain off throughout this procedure.
2. Depressurize the hydraulic accumulator by pumping the brake pedal a minimum of 25 times.
3. Remove electrical connector from fluid level sensor on reservoir cap and remove reservoir cap.
