HORN CHIRPS INTERMITTENTLY OR SOUNDS CONTINUOUSLY

MODELS AFFECTED:
1989-1993 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS (FWD) 
1990-1993 ELDORADOS, SEVILLES, AND ALLANTES EQUIPPED WITH SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT (SIR)

This bulletin is being revised to add a model year, a new part number, and include additional models. This bulletin supersedes Service bulletin T-92-26
which should be discarded.

Some 1989-1993 DeVilles and Fleetwoods (FWD), and 1990-1993 Eldorados, Sevilles, and Allantes equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint
(SIR) may experience a condition where the horn chirps intermittently or sounds continuously. To repair this condition use the following procedure:

1.

Disable the SIR system. Refer to Section 9J in the Service Information Manual.

2.

Disable the horn by removing the horn relay.

3.

Remove the SIR inflator module from the steering wheel. Refer to Section 3F in the Service Information Manual.

4.

Remove steering wheel using Kent-Moore special tool J-1859-03. Refer to Section 3F in the Service Information Manual.

5.

Place steering wheel on a solid work surface that is covered with a soft cloth so that it rests on its rim with its back facing up. Refer to Figure 1.

6.

Tap out the two spiral tap fasteners which retain the horn contact assembly to the steering wheel using an appropriately sized hardened punch and
hammer. Refer to Figure 1.

7.

Turn steering wheel over so that it rests on its back side with the rim facing up.

8.

Replace the horn contact assembly with a new service horn contact assembly.
