Oil Change Reminder Lamp: Service and Repair

DESCRIPTION

Vehicles are equipped with an Engine Oil Life Index (EOLI) feature as part of the Driver Information Center display (DIC). Engine oil life 
remaining, expressed in percent, is displayed through engine data as the "Oil Life Index" and as the "CHANGE ENGINE OIL" message. See
Computers and Control Systems for further information. 

When the oil life index reaches 10% or less a "CHANGE OIL SOON" message will appear. When it reaches 0%, the "CHANGE ENGINE OIL"
message will appear as a reminder that the oil should be changed within 200 miles.

A "CHECK OIL LEVEL" message will display when engine oil level is approximately one quart low.

NOTE: Reset the Engine Oil Life Index after every oil change, even if the "CHANGE OIL" message did not come on.

RESETTING THE OIL LIFE INDEX AFTER AN OIL CHANGE

Press the "RANGE" button until "OIL LIFE INDEX" is displayed.

Press and hold the "AVERAGE SPEED" and "RANGE" buttons until the display resets to "100". (hold about 5 seconds)

This will reset the oil life index and the "CHANGE ENGINE OIL" message will remain off until the next oil change is needed. 

CALCULATION OF THE ENGINE OIL LIFE INDEX

The oil change interval determined by the EOLI will usually fall between the two recommended service intervals and is determined by accessing
engine computer data to determine severity of driving conditions based on coolant sensor, engine load and various data. The EOLI cannot determine
excessively dusty conditions or engine malfunctions which may affect the oil. More frequent oil changes will be needed under these conditions.
