Body Control Module: Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
Low Engine Oil
Oil Level Circuit
TEST CONDITION:
EEPROM indicates an oil level switch is present.
FAILURE CONDITION:
1.
PCM/ECM data OK (no code B334 set).
2.
Coolant temp sensor data OK.
3.
Change in coolant temperature since last ignition cycle is greater than 15°C.
4.
Oil level input high, indicating low oil level.
ACTION TAKEN:
Display "Low Engine Oil" message on the CCDIC.
The BCM monitors the engine oil level through the oil level sensor input, pin 1D13. The oil level sensor is a magnetic switch that is closed with normal
oil level and opens with low oil level. When the switch is closed, the BCM will see a low voltage on pin 1D13 and when the switch is open it will see a
high voltage. The BCM will only check for a low oil level when it wakes up and sees a drop in coolant temperature of at least 15°C since the end of the
previous ignition cycle. This is done to assure that the oil has had a chance to drain back into the oil pan so that a correct oil level reading may be made.
If these conditions are met and the oil level input is high, indicating low oil level, the BCM will send the "Low Engine Oil" message to the DIC.
Condition Possible Causes:

Erroneous Message - open in circuit 114, open in sensor, or open in circuit 1033.

No Message - short to ground on circuit 99, or shorted sensor.
