Vacuum Pump: Service and Repair
Electrical Vacuum Pump

Vacuum Pump, Replace

1.

Raise and support front of vehicle.

2.

Remove lefthand side splash shield.

3.

Carefully remove locking type electrical connectors and vacuum hoses from pump.

4.

Remove three vacuum pump retaining nuts and the pump.

5.

Reverse procedure to install.

Controller, Replace

1.

Remove vacuum pump as described above.

2.

Remove upper and lower shields.

3.

Remove two tie bolts, Fig. 9.

4.

Carefully separate rear housing from pump housing.

5.

Remove four screws securing controller to rear housing. Remove brushes from brush holders, then remove controller, gasket and washer.

6.

Install controller using new gasket and washer. Place both brushes in rear brush holder cavity.

7.

Preload brush springs by locking them in slots provided above spring access slots. Position brushes in channels, checking to ensure shunts are
properly positioned.

8.

Install brush retainer in proper position and return springs to load position, Fig. 10.

9.

Reverse steps 1 thru 4 to complete installation.
