SUBJECT:
TILT STEERING COLUMN NOISE OR SQUEAKS
MODELS AFFECTED: ALL WITH TILT OR TILT AND TELESCOPE STEERING COLUMNS
Some vehicles equipped with tilt or tilt and telescope steering columns may experience a squeaking noise when turning the steering wheel while in a
tilted position. This can be caused by insufficient grease in the tilting mechanism.
TO CHECK FOR THIS CONDITION:
1.
Start engine.

Position steering wheel in the full up position. See Figure 1.
3.
Touching only the rim, turn the steering wheel back and forth to the extreme left and right positions.
4.
Repeat this procedure with the column tilt mechanism positioned at the straight on and full down positions.
TO REPAIR THIS CONDITION:
1.
Position the tilt mechanism in the full up position.
