3. Clean the ring gear in solvent.
4. Inspect the ring gear for the following conditions:

Damage to the threaded holes (1)
*
Unusual wear or heat discoloration to the gear teeth (2)

Clean the pinion flange in solvent.
6. Inspect the pinion flange for the following conditions:

Splines for wear, pitting or twisting (1)
*
Sealing surface for grooves or pitting (2)
Bearings and Races
