Powertrain Control Module: Description and Operation
EEPROM Data Reset
EEPROM DATA FOLLOWING PCM REPLACEMENT
Since the data contained in the EEPROM is specific to the vehicle that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is in, the EEPROM will reset if the
PCM is installed in another vehicle. The PCM does this automatically by comparing the season odometer value it has saved to the season odometer
value stored in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). If these two values are different, the PCM assumes it is in a new vehicle and resets EEPROM
data. This reset may also occur if the IPC is replaced.
AFTER RESET
When this reset occurs, the following data will be erased:
-
TP sensor/Idle learn
-
Transaxle adapts (shifts, steady state, and garage shifts)
-
Transaxle oil life
-
Cruise lash learn
Resetting Throttle Position (TP) sensor/Idle learn will trigger Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P080 and resetting transaxle oil life will trigger the
"change trans fluid" message. The TP sensor/Idle learn can be relearned by following the Code P080 chart. The transaxle oil life may be reset to its
previous value using PCM override PS15. The transaxle adapts will be relearned during normal operation. Refer to Cruise Control/Service and
Repair for Cruise Control Lash Learn procedure.
