Clearcoat Damage to Aluminum Wheels
CLEARCOAT DAMAGE TO ALUMINUM WHEELS
1. Apply a chemical stripper to the wheel. Use a small 1/4-inch detail brush dipped in the stripper in order to apply the material around the perimeter
and spoke-like areas.
2. Remove the stripper, following the manufacturer's recommendations.
Caution: To avoid serious personal injury, do not stand over tire when inflating. Bead may break when bead snaps over safety hump. Do
not exceed 275 kPa (40 psi) pressure when inflating any tire if beads are not seated. If 275 kPa (40 psi) pressure will not seat beads,
deflate, relubricate the beads and reinflate. Overinflation may cause the bead to break and cause personal injury.
3. Sand the wheel with 240 grit while rotating the wheel on a slow spinning brake lathe. If a brake lathe is not available, mount the wheel on the
vehicle and spin the wheel by hand. This sanding procedure will restore the machined appearance to the wheel and promote adhesion of the
protective paint.
4. Perform the Recoating Procedure.
