Hood Hinge: Service and Repair

Hood Hinge Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Open and support the hood at the front.
2. Using a wax pencil, scribe the location of the hood hinge on the hood.

Notice:  Refer to Tape Corners of Panel Notice  in Cautions and Notices.

3. Place tape or other protection on the corner of the hood on the side where the hinge is to be removed.

Caution:  Refer to Hood Hold Open Device Caution  in Cautions and Notices.

4. Remove the hood support rods. Refer to Hood Open Assist Rod Replacement  (See: Hood Shock / Support/Service and Repair/Hood Open Assist

Rod Replacement) .

5. Remove the fasteners that secure the hinge (2) to the motor compartment (3).
6. Remove the fasteners that secure the hinge (2) to the hood (1).
7. Remove the hinge (2).

Installation Procedure

1. Position the hinge (2) to the hood (1) using the scribed locations.

Notice:  Refer to Fastener Notice  in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the fasteners in order to secure the hinge (2) to the hood (1).

Tighten the fasteners to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

3. Install the 2 fasteners in order to secure the hinge (2) to the motor compartment (3).

Tighten the fasteners to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).

4. Install the hood support rods. Refer to Hood Open Assist Rod Replacement  (See: Hood Shock / Support/Service and Repair/Hood Open Assist

Rod Replacement) .

5. Remove the hood corner protection.
6. Close the hood and inspect for fit.
7. Adjust the hood as necessary. Refer to Hood Adjustment  (See: Adjustments) .
