Vacuum Brake Booster: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

1. Place the vehicle on a flat surface
2. Remove air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management. 
3. Remove the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement. 
4. Remove the vacuum hose (2) from the vacuum booster.
5. Set the parking brake.
6. Block the wheels to keep the vehicle from moving.

7. To allow access for the removal of the brake booster, position gearshift lever into lowest gear.

8. Remove retaining nut from coolant tube (1) Position coolant tube (2) out of way to allow access for removal of brake booster.
