Tachometer: Description and Operation
TACHOMETER (W/UY9)
The IPC displays the engine speed based on information received from the PCM. The PCM converts the data from the engine to a 2 pulses per engine
revolution signal. The IPC uses the engine speed signal circuit from the PCM in order to calculate the engine speed. The tachometer defaults to 0 RPM
if a malfunction in the engine speed signal circuit exists.
The tachometer is an available vehicle option. The tachometer displays the engine speed, between 0 and 7000 RPM. The engine RPM is calculated by a
discrete signal sent to the IPC from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
The tachometer is displayed as XXXX RPM TACHOMETER. The XXXX represents the calculated engine RPM value. The tachometer cannot be reset
by the driver.
