Diagnostic Information For Brake Self-Apply
Models:
2000-2003 Cadillac DeVille DHS and DTS with RPO N37
If repairs have been made to the Steering Wheel Position Sensor Assembly on vehicles equipped with a Power Tilt and Telescopic Steering Wheel (RPO
N37), the brakes may self-apply after making telescopic adjustments to the steering column.
There may be no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) set or Power Steering System or Brake Assist System symptoms.
When telescopic adjustments are made to the steering column, misrouted Steering Wheel Position Sensor Harness wires may become disconnected
causing the brakes to self-apply.
To assist in the diagnosis of self-applying brakes, the following procedure should be performed:
1.
Review the vehicle's maintenance history for repairs to the steering column assembly.
2.
If the Steering Wheel Position Sensor Assembly was replaced, ensure the harness wires (1) have been routed correctly and are NOT
caught/hooked on any surrounding components.
