DeVille DTS V8-4.6L VIN 9 (2002)
Some 2001 vehicles may have had the new power steering pressure hose previously installed in an attempt to correct this condition. These vehicles
will not require hose replacement and can be identified by inspecting the power steering pressure hose. The new pressure hose will have a metal
clamp at the point of attachment to the frame and will be secured by a bolt.
2002 model year vehicles after VIN breakpoint
2U100085 were built with the new high pressure power steering hose. The new power steering gear entered production on vehicles built after VIN
breakpoint 2U142766. All vehicles after this breakpoint should not require service for this condition.
1.
Install the Steering Column Lock Pin J 42640.
2.
On DeVille model vehicles, remove the screw and two nuts securing the coolant recovery bottle. Rotate and secure the coolant recovery bottle
rearward to gain access to the power steering pressure hose upper clamp on those vehicles requiring hose replacement.
3.
Remove the nut securing the power steering pressure hose upper clamp to the engine on vehicles requiring hose replacement.
4.
Disconnect the power steering pressure hose at the power steering pump on vehicles requiring hose replacement.
5.
Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
6.
Remove the front wheel and tire assemblies.
7.
Disconnect the height sensor links from the LCA studs on the vehicles equipped with Road Sensing Suspension (RSS).
8.
Disconnect the steering intermediate shaft at the power steering gear.
9.
Support the rear of the frame assembly.
10.
Remove the four rear frame mounting bolts.
11.
Remove the 2 bolts and nuts securing the transaxle mount to the frame assembly.
12.
Remove the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle nuts.
13.
Disconnect the outer tie rod ends from the steering knuckles using a Universal Linkage Puller J 24319-B.
14.
Disconnect the front stabilizer shaft end links and rotate the shaft upward to provide access to the heat shield/steering gear fasteners.
15.
Lower the rear of the frame assembly approximately 50 mm (2 in).
16.
Remove the heat shield attaching bolts. Disconnect the wiring harness clip from the shield and remove the shield.
17.
Disconnect the steering gear wiring harness.
18.
Disconnect the power steering pressure and return hoses at the steering gear.
19.
Remove the steering gear to frame attaching bolts and remove the steering gear.
20.
Remove and discard the existing power steering pressure hose clip from the frame on vehicles that require hose replacement.
21.
Remove and discard the power steering pressure hose on vehicles requiring hose replacement.
22.
Install the new power steering pressure hose, P/N 25737839, on vehicles requiring hose replacement.
23.
Transfer the outer tie rod ends from the removed steering gear to the new gear, P/N 26098942.
24.
Install the new steering gear.
Tighten
Tighten the gear to frame attaching bolts to 65 N-m (48 lb ft)
25.
On vehicles requiring hose replacement, secure the clip of the new power steering pressure hose to the frame with the new screw, P/N 10082184,
using the hole in the frame where the previously removed clip was attached.
26.
Position the clip fore-aft.
