Rear Axle Shaft Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle   (See: Maintenance/Vehicle Lifting/Service and Repair).
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation   (See: Maintenance/Wheels and Tires/Service and Repair

).

3. Remove the brake caliper mounting bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement (1500 Series)   (See: Brakes and Traction

4. Remove the rear wheel speed sensor.

5. Remove the rear axle housing cover and the gasket. Refer to Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement (8.6, 9.5 Inch Axles)   (See:

Differential Assembly/Service and Repair)Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle)   ().

6. Remove the pinion shaft locking bolt.
