Antenna Mast: Service and Repair
Many antenna problems can be prevented by cleaning and lightly oiling the antenna rod at periodic intervals. Cleaning is easily performed at oil change
intervals or when car is being washed. To clean and/or lubricate the antenna, the following procedures are recommended. If the car has been undercoated
make sure that the drain holes have not been plugged.
TO CLEAN MAST (Before Lubricating)
1. Raise antenna to full mast extension.
2. Dampen clean cloth with mineral spirits.
3. Wipe cloth over antenna mast sections removing any dirt.
4. Retract and extend antenna.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 at least twice.
TO LUBRICATE MAST (After Cleaning)
1. Raise antenna.
2. Dampen cloth with light oil - GM 9981712 (or equivalent).
3. Wipe cloth over antenna mast, evenly distributing oil.
4. Retract and extend antenna.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 at least twice.
