FRONT SEAT BACK CUSHION TILTED OUTWARD

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985-1987 DE VILLE/FLEETWOOD

The front seat back cushions (left and/or right) on some 1985-1987 De Ville/Fleetwoods may appear to tilt outward (toward the doors) by as much as
1/2" (12 mm) at the top of the seat. This condition can result if the seat back foam pad and cover are improperly installed on the seat back frame
assembly.

To repair this condition, use the following procedure along with Section 9C of the appropriate Body Service Manual to reposition the pad and cover on
the seat back frame.

1.

Remove the effected front seat assembly (left or right side) from the vehicle. Place on a clean covered work bench and remove the head rest.

2.

Remove the seat back from the seat assembly.

3.

Remove the seat back cover. Loosen the foam pad from the seat back frame at the top and both sides.

4.

Reposition the foam pad on the frame so that the top of the pad is 1/2" (12 mm) inward toward the center of the vehicle as compared to the original
position.

5.

Secure the foam pad to the frame with new trim retaining clips (hog rings). Install the seat back cover.

6.

Install the seat back onto the seat assembly. Install the head rest.

7.

Install the seat assembly into the vehicle. Torque all four seat to floor attaching nuts to 24 ft.lbs. (32 N-m).

For warranty purposes, use the following Labor Operations. Right side (passenger) C7060 for 1.4 hours. Left side (driver) C7061 for 1.4 hours.
