Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair
Before replacing the crankshaft oil seal, be sure that the apparent oil seal leak is not actually a leak between the sides of the rear main cap and
crankcase.
1. Remove transaxle, then the flex plate from crankshaft.
2. Remove old seal with tool J-26868, or equivalent.
3. Lubricate new seal lip with wheel bearing grease and place on crankshaft with spring facing inside of engine.
4. Press seal into position with tool J-34604, or equivalent. Seal is fully installed when flush with block or slightly below. The use of tool is
recommended since seal must fit squarely on crankshaft, otherwise an oil leak could result.
