Intake Manifold: Service and Repair
Intake Manifold Replace
1.
Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2.
Relieve fuel pressure as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
3.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
4.
Remove air cleaner assembly, then drain engine coolant.
5.
Remove cross car brace, then accessory drive belt.
6.
Disconnect power steering and tensioner bracket assembly and position aside.
7.
Remove alternator and bracket.
8.
Disconnect throttle cable from throttle body.
9.
Disconnect the following electrical connectors and position aside:
a. Distributor.
b. Oil pressure switch.
c. Coolant sensor.
d. EGR solenoid.
e. ISC motor.
f.
TP sensor.
g. Fuel injectors.
h. MAT sensor.
10.
Remove MAP hoses.
11.
Disconnect thermostat housing attaching hoses.
12.
Remove A/C hose bracket.
13.
Remove distributor cap, spark plug wire protectors and position aside.
14.
Mark distributor rotor installation alignment, then remove rotor.
15.
Disconnect fuel lines at transmission bracket.
16.
Disconnect throttle body fuel and vacuum lines.
17.
Disconnect throttle body and transmission modulator line vacuum supply lines.
18.
Loosen vacuum line clip at lift bracket.
19.
Remove valve covers.
20.
Mark pushrods with installation positions, then remove rocker arms and pushrods. Ensure pushrods are installed in original positions.
21.
Remove bracket at power steering.
22.
Remove right front and rear lift brackets.
23.
Remove intake manifold attaching bolts, then remove.

24.
Reverse procedure to install. Torque manifold attaching bolts to specifications and sequence shown in Fig. 6.
25.
Rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
