Oil Change Reminder Lamp: Service and Repair
DESCRIPTION
Vehicles are equipped with an Engine Oil Life Index (EOLI) feature as part of the Fuel Data Center (FDC).
The percentage of oil life remaining can be displayed on the Fuel Data Center (FDC) at anytime by pressing the "RANGE" and "FUEL USED"
simultaneously. A number from 100 (new oil) to 0 (oil needs changing) will be displayed while the two keys are pressed. The previous display will
return when the keys are released.

The "CHANGE OIL SOON" telltale will light for a bulb check each time the ignition is cycled to "ON".

It will also light for 20 seconds whenever the ignition is turned ON and the oil life remaining is less than 10% or it has been 7,500 miles since the
last reset.

The 20 second "CHANGE OIL SOON" light is the reminder that the oil should be changed.
If the BCM is replaced between oil changes, the miles driven since the last reset will be incorrect and will need to be reset.
NOTE: Reset the Engine Oil Life Index after every oil change, even if the CHANGE OIL indicator did not come on.
RESETTING THE CHANGE OIL MESSAGE AFTER AN OIL CHANGE

Press RANGE and FUEL USED simultaneously to display oil life index.

Press RANGE and RESET simultaneously until the CHANGE OIL SOON light flashes (hold about 5 seconds). The oil life index will not remain
displayed.
CALCULATION OF OIL LIFE INDEX
The information that is used to calculate the percentage is (1) miles driven since last reset (2) coolant temperature (3) engine revolutions (4) vehicle
speed.
The oil change interval determined by the EOLI will usually fall between the two recommended service intervals and is determined by accessing
engine computer data to determine severity of driving conditions based on coolant sensor, engine load and various data. The EOLI cannot determine
excessively dusty conditions or engine malfunctions which may affect the oil. More frequent oil changes will be needed under these conditions.
