1.
Ensure proper operation of temperature switch on EGR thermostatic vacuum switch.
2.
Remove air cleaner and install screened cover No. J-26996-1, or equivalent.
3.
Disconnect fuel return line from return line connector, then remove the connector from injection pump cover.
4.
Push HPCA solenoid plunger into the solenoid, then disconnect electrical connector from HPCA terminal, Fig. 5.

Apply 12 volts to HPCA terminal, using a suitable jumper, and observe solenoid plunger. If plunger does not extend fully, remove pump cover and
repair or replace solenoid as necessary.

Install adapter No. J-34151 into pump cover and attach return line to adapter.
7.
Attach a low pressure gauge to adapter, then install magnetic pickup tachometer No. J-26925 or equivalent.
8.
Check housing pressure at 1000 RPM with transmission in Park, parking brake applied and drive wheels blocked. Compare recorded pressure to
specifications in chart, Fig. 6.
9.
If pressure is low, replace fuel return line connector assembly.
10.
If pressure is high, proceed as follows:
a. Disconnect return line from adapter pump.
b. Install a suitable fitting and length of hose to allow return fuel flow to to drain into a small container, then recheck pressure.
c. If pressure is lower than original reading, locate and correct restriction in fuel line.
d. If pressure is still high, replace fuel return line connector assembly.
e. If pressure remains high, remove injection pump and repair or replace as necessary.
11.
Remove tachometer, pressure gauge and adapter.
12.
Install fuel return line connector into pump cover, using a new O-ring.
13.
Connect fuel return line to return line connector.
