Bushing & Boot Replacement
1.
Remove mounting bracket from vehicle.
2.
Remove bolt boots from support bushings, Fig. 2.
3.
Clamp bracket in a suitable vise, then pry support bushings from inner bushings in bracket ears with small screwdriver.
4.
Using a paper clip, pull inner bushings from mounting bracket ears.
5.
Lubricate inner bushings with silicone based grease, then install bushings flush with bracket ears.
6.
Position .080-.090 inch thick shim stock on bracket ear face, then tap support bushings, with plastic mallet, into inner bushings, Fig. 3. When
properly installed, bushing should protrude .080-.090 inch above bracket ear face.
7.
Snap new bolt boots over support bushing lip.
Installation
1.
Coat mounting bracket attaching bolt threads with Loctite sealant or equivalent. Failure to use sealant on mounting bolts may result in
loosening of caliper to knuckle attachment.
2.
Align mounting bracket holes, then install mounting bracket and tighten attaching bolts to specifications.
Caliper Assembly
1.
Install bleeder valve.
2.
Install bracket, if removed.
3.
Lubricate piston seal, piston, caliper bore and dust boot with new brake fluid.
4.
Roll piston seal into seal groove in caliper bore, ensuring seal is fully seated and not twisted.
5.
Lubricate piston locator with new brake fluid, then position locator on piston using piston locating tools No. J135588-1 and No. J135588-2 or
equivalents.
6.
Install thrust washer, grayish side towards caliper housing, on actuator screw.
7.
Install lubricated shaft seal on actuator screw, then install actuator screw assembly into caliper housing.
8.
Install balance spring in piston recess.
9.
Install piston assembly, pressing piston in until locator is past snap ring groove, turn actuator screw as necessary to allow piston assembly to move
toward bottom of caliper bore, then install snap ring.
10.
Install lubricated dust boot over piston with inside lip in groove in piston and boot fold toward end of piston that contacts brake shoe, then bottom
piston in caliper bore.
11.
Install anti-friction washer and seal over end of actuator screw, ensuring seal bead is against caliper housing.
12.
Install parking brake lever over actuator screw, rotate lever away from stop, hold lever and torque retaining nut to 35 ft. lbs., then rotate lever
back to stop.
13.
Seat dust boot in caliper counterbore using suitable driver.
