Idle Speed: Adjustments

1.

Remove the air cleaner and plug the TAC vacuum tap.  Start the engine and enter diagnostics. Select ECM parameter ED04, Coolant Temp. 
Operate the engine until coolant temperature is greater than 85~C (185~F).

Disable the generator by grounding the green test connector near the generator.  The "NO CHARGE" lamp should come on.

Select ECM override ES03 "ISC MOTOR."

4.

Press the cooler button to retract the ISC motor.  The ISC motor will slowly retract (about 20 seconds).

With the ISC fully retracted, the plunger should not be touching the throttle lever.  If contact is noted, adjust the ISC plunger (turn in) with pliers
or special tool J-29607 so that it is not touching the throttle lever.  Make sure that the throttle is not binding on the cruise, TV, or throttle cables. 
The throttle lever must be resting on the minimum air screw.

Check the minimum idle speed.  If the minimum idle speed is outside its limits adjust the minimum idle screw, refer to MECHANICAL
SPECIFICATIONS.

If engine speed is not within the above limits, check for vacuum leaks at the throttle body, intake manifold, vacuum fittings, tees and hoses.  If the
minimum air setting is made with a vacuum leak present, fuel control can be adversely affected throughout the driving range.

ISC SOLENOID

1.

With key on engine off, extend the ISC motor by jumpering B+ to pin "D" and B- to pin "C" on the ISC connnector. CAUTION:  Never connect a
voltage source across pins "A" and "B".

With the ISC fully extended, apply and release power to extend the ISC while watching the nose of the ISC motor.  The procedure that should be
used is apply voltage, release voltage, note the ISC motor nose with the ISC stopped.  This should be done multiple times.  With the ISC stopped
at full extension, one of two nose positions will be seen; an extended position at the top of the ratchet, and a low position at the bottom of the
ratchet.  Look for the highest nose position, which will be seen when the ISC stops at the top of its ratchet.  Stop the ISC when the highest nose
position is seen.

3.

With the ISC at maximum extension the TPS parameter should be 10.5 to 11.5.  If the parameter is not within this range, adjust the ISC plunger
"IN" to lower the parameter or "OUT" to raise the parameter, as necessary.  Recheck the maximum extension TPS parameter by again applying
power to extend the ISC until a maximum ISC nose position is seen.  Readjust TPS if necessary.
