Technical Service Bulletin # 05018
Date: 050308
Recall - Electronic Throttle Control Pedal Replacement
F/CMVSS Noncompliance - Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Pedal Assembly # 05018 - (Mar 8, 2005)
Models:
2004 CADILLAC SRX, XLR
2004PONTIAC GRAND PRIX
Condition
General Motors has decided that certain 2004 model year Cadillac SRX and XLR, and Pontiac Grand Prix vehicles fail to conform to Federal/Canada
Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 124, Accelerator Control Systems. If one of the two accelerator pedal return springs fails, and the temperature is -30°C to
-40°C (-22°F to -40°F) for the Cadillac XLR and Pontiac Grand Prix, -10°C to -40°C (14°F to -40°F) for the Cadillac SRX, the engine may not return to
idle within three seconds as required. If this were to occur, greater brake pedal force and a longer distance may be required to stop the vehicle. If
stopping distance is limited, a vehicle crash could occur.
If you encounter higher than expected engine speed after you remove your foot from the accelerator pedal, shift to Neutral and apply the brake firmly to
stop in a safe location.
Correction
Dealers are to replace the electronic control pedal assembly.
