Differential Case Cleaning and Inspection
Differential Case
1. Caution:
Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in Service Precautions.
Clean the differential case in solvent.
2. Inspect the differential case for the following conditions:

Chips or cracks
^
Damage to the bolts holes (1)
^
Unusual wear, grooves or scoring
^
Damaged side bearing flanges (2)
^
Heat discoloration
^
Worn differential pin bores (3)
3. Caution:
Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in Service Precautions.
Clean the pinion gear in solvent.
4. Inspect the pinion gear for the following conditions:
^
Unusual gear teeth wear, pitting or heat discoloration (1)
^
Pinion splines for wear, pitting or twisted splines (2)
^
Pinion shaft thread condition (3)
^
Ensure pinion gear end is not bent or burred over on the end (4)
