Starter Motor: Service and Repair

STARTER MOTOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION:  Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
3. Remove the starter motor mounting bolts.
4. Remove any shims previously used.
5. Lower the starter motor.

6. Disconnect the starter enable relay lead (1), the battery positive cable (2), and the generator output (BAT) lead (3) from the starter solenoid field

leads.

7. Remove the starter motor.
