Torsion Bar: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Mark adjustment of adjusting bolt.
3.
Increase tension on adjustment arm using torsion bar unloading tool No. J-36202.
4.
Remove adjustment bolt and retaining plate.
5.
Move tool aside, then slide torsion bars forward and remove adjustment arms.
6.
Remove torsion bar support crossmember retaining nuts and bolts, then slide crossmember rearward.
7.
Remove torsion bars noting respective side removed from.
8.
Remove support crossmember.
INSTALLATION
1.
Install crossmember onto frame.
2.
Install torsion bars, ensuring bars are installed in original position.
3.
Install adjustment bars to torsion bars. Tighten bolts to specifications.
4.
Install adjustment retainer plate on torsion bars.
5.
Using torsion bar unloading tool No. J-36202 increase tension, then install retaining plate and adjusting bolt.
6.
Set adjusting bolt to marked setting.
7.
Release tension on torsion bar until load is taken up by adjustment bolt, then remove tool.
8.
Lower vehicle, then check ``Z'' height as described under ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES/VEHICLE RIDE HEIGHT.
