Headlamp Dimmer Switch: Service and Repair

1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Position lock cylinder in Accessory position.
3.
Remove steering column to instrument panel attaching bolts, then gently lower steering column to drivers seat.
4.
Remove dimmer and ignition switch mounting stud nut, then the dimmer switch attaching screw and dimmer switch.
5.
Remove dimmer switch actuator rod.
6.
Remove dimmer and ignition switch mounting stud.
7.
Remove ignition switch assembly from ignition switch actuator.
8.
Remove inhibitor switch housing to ignition switch assembly attaching screws, then the inhibitor switch housing.
9.
On models equipped with park lock steering column, use suitable screwdriver to remove park lock cable from switch inhibitor, Fig. 2.
10.
Install inhibitor switch housing on ignition switch, then install attaching screws and torque to 9 inch lbs.
11.
On models equipped with park lock steering column, insert park lock cable into switch inhibitor housing, then push in until locking tabs engage.
12.
Ensure lock cylinder is positioned in Accessory position, then place ignition switch slider in far left (accessory) position and install ignition switch
over switch actuator.
13.
Position ignition switch on steering column, then install dimmer and ignition switch mounting stud. Torque stud to 35 inch lbs.
14.
Position dimmer switch actuator rod into dimmer switch rod cap hole, then install actuator rod.
15.
Install dimmer switch on dimmer and ignition switch mounting stud. Install dimmer switch mounting nut and screw. Do not tighten at this time.
16.
Position dimmer switch in such a way so click is heard whenever the turn signal lever is pulled back, then torque attaching nut and screw to 35
inch lbs.
17.
Install steering column. Torque attaching bolts to 29 ft. lbs.
