Brake Shoe: Service and Repair
Installation

1.

Install parking brake lever, pin and retaining ring onto secondary shoe.

2.

Apply silicone brake lubricant onto adjuster screw threads, inside diameter of socket and socket face. Adequate lubrication is achieved when a
continuous bead of lubricant is at open end of pivot nut and socket when adjuster threads are completely engaged.

3.

Install adjusting screw assembly and spring. Spring coils must not overlap star wheel. Do not interchange right and lefthand springs.

4.

Connect parking brake cable, then install shoe and lining assembly.

5.

Using a suitable tool, spread brake shoes apart, then install parking brake strut and spring. Ensure parking brake strut is properly positioned.
Ensure strut end without spring engages parking brake lever. Ensure strut end with spring engages primary brake shoe.

6.

Install actuator lever and return spring.

7.

Install actuator link onto anchor pin.

8.

While holding up on actuator lever, install link onto lever.

9.

Install hold-down pins, lever pivot and hold-down springs.

10.

Install shoe return springs.

11.

Install brake drum, tire and wheel assembly.

12.

If any hydraulic connections have been opened, bleed brake system.

13.

Adjust brakes.
