Audible Warning Device: Component Tests and General Diagnostics

The Audible Warnings System is controlled by the Multi-function Alarm Module and sounds a chime to bring attention to several conditions. These
conditions are:

1. Key is in the Ignition Cylinder.
2. Seat Belt is not fastened.
3. Headlights are on.
4. Turn signal is on.

The Multi-function Alarm Module also controls a battery run-down protection feature.

key-In-Ignition Chime
Voltage is applied at all times to Conn C2 term "D" of the Multi-function Alarm Module through Fuse 11. When the key is in the ignition and LH
front door is open, Conn C1 term "H" and term "E" of the Multi-function Alarm Module are grounded. This sounds the chime.

Fasten Belts Chime
With the Ignition Switch in "RUN," "BULB TEST" or "START," voltage is applied through Fuse 9 to Conn C1 term "M" of the Multi-function
Alarm Module. With the LH front seat belt unbuckled, Conn C1 term "K" of the Multi-function Alarm Module is grounded through the Seat Belt
Switch. The fasten belts chime sounds for 4 to 8 seconds. The Fasten Belts Indicator operates for 60 to 90 seconds.

Fasten Belts Indicator
The Fasten Belts Indicator is also controlled by the Multi-function Alarm Module. The indicator will light:

For 60 to 90 seconds after the ignition is turned on if the doors are closed.

Any time the Seat Belt Retractors are energized by a door opening and the Ignition Switch is in "RUN," "BULB TEST" or "START."

^

If there is a fault detected in the Seat Belt Retractor Solenoids circuit.

Lights-On Chime
The Multi-function Alarm Module sounds the Lights-on chime when the following three conditions are met:
1. Battery voltage at Conn C1 terminal "D" indicates that the Park or Headlights are on.
2. 0 volts at Conn C1 terminal "M" indicates that the Ignition Switch is in "OFF," "ACCY," or "LOCK."
3. Ground at Conn C1 terminal "H" indicates that the LH door is open.

Battery Run Down Protection
The Battery Run Down Protection feature is made up of two independent features: the Parasitic Power Control and the Inadvertent Power Control.

Parasitic Power Control
The Parasitic Power Control output of the Multi- function Alarm Module supplies voltage to the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM),
Instrument Cluster and Radio. The output timer will shut off power to all of the above components when one of these two conditions occurs:

Vehicle travels for less than 15 miles since battery power is applied to the Multi-function Alarm Module and is parked for 3 days
following the last ignition cycle.

^

Vehicle travels for more than 15 miles since battery power is applied to the Multi-function Alarm Module and is parked for 24 days
following the last ignition cycle.

Inadvertent Power Control
The Inadvertent Power Control output of the Multifunction Alarm Module supplies voltage to these lights: Courtesy, Header, Rear Quarter,
Vanity Mirror, Reading, I/P Compartment and Luggage Compartment. For more information, see to Interior Lights (Refer to Lighting and

Power Output Diagnostic Mode
There is a Power Output Diagnostic Mode in the Multifunction Alarm Module that can be used to run a quick check on the operation of the
Parasitic Power Control, the Courtesy Lights Control and Inadvertent Power Control outputs. It is activated after all of the following actions
have been performed:

Turn Interior Lights on using Panel Dimmer Switch

^

Close all doors

^

Turn on Radio

^

Turn Ignition Switch to "RUN" and, before 15 seconds pass, perform these steps:

Open the RH front door.

Cycle the Headlight Switch from "PARK" to "OFF" 3 times.

The Inadvertent Power Control output will flash all the Interior Lights for one minute. At the end of the one minate the Parasitic Power Control
will shut off power to the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM), Instrument Cluster and Radio for one second. During this test all other
module function are disabled.

Additional Features
The Multi-function Alarm Module also controls the Seat Belt Retractor Solenoids, Illuminated Entry features and Automatic Door Lock. Refer to
