PAINT TOPCOAT DELAMINATION
Model and Year:
1987-90 L CAR
TO:
ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS
1987 thru early 1990 L cars produced at the Linden plant only, and painted medium sapphire blue, light sapphire, silver, or gun-metal gray, may be
subject to topcoat delamination after exposure to sunlight and humidity.
Use the following procedure to correct:
1.
Verify that the condition is delamination of the topcoat. Apply a piece of wide masking tape firmly over the suspect area, and pull upward quickly.
If the topcoat and clear coat flake or peel off the primer, leaving the primer intact, the topcoat is delaminating.
2.
Refinish all the horizontal surfaces, including the hood, deck lid, and roof. It is important that all horizontal surfaces be refinished, as other
horizontal surfaces may show the same condition at a later time, causing customer comebacks.
