Valve Cover: Service and Repair
Rocker Arm Cover - Right

Roker Arm Cover

Remove or Disconnect

1. Air cleaner assembly. 
2. Negative battery cable.
3. Drain coolant. For additional procedures refer to Cooling System / Service and Repair / Draining and Refilling. See: Cooling System/Service

and Repair

4. Vacuum hoses at plenum.
5. Air flow tube.
6. EGR tube at crossover pipe.
7. Ignition wire guide.
8. Ignition wire harness at plenum and at plugs.
9. Coolant hoses at throttle body.

10. Necessary electrical wiring from plenum. Refer to Vehicle / Locations / Connectors / Pictorial Views for harness locations. See:

11. Throttle, T.V., and cruise cables. Refer to Components / Accelerator Controls, Engine Compartment under Throttle Cable/Linkage. See:

Powertrain Management/Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Throttle Cable/Linkage/Locations

12. Bracket at right side of plenum.
13. Brake booster vacuum supply at plenum.
14. Serpentine belt.
15. Exhaust pipe at crossover.
16. Generator and support aside. 
17. PCV valve from valve cover.
18. Valve rocker arm cover bolts and cover.

NOTE  If cover adheres to cylinder head, remove by burning end of rocker arm cover with palm of hand or soft rubber mallet.

17. Valve rocker arm cover gasket.
18. Clean sealing surface on cylinder head and valve cover with degreaser.

Install or Connect

1. New gasket and new bolt grommets.

NOTEMake sure gasket is seated properly in valve cover groove.

2. Ultra Black RTV sealer GM P/N 12345739 (or equivalent) in notch.
3. Valve rocker arm cover and bolts. Tighten bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb. in.).
4. PCV valve to valve rocker arm cover.
5. Generator and bracket.

Torque generator brace bolt ( to generator ) and generator upper attaching bolt to 25 Nm ( 18 ft. lb. )

Torque generator brace bolt ( to engine ) and generator lower attaching bolt to 47 Nm ( 35 ft. lb. )

6. Exhaust pipe at crossover and torque bolts to 25 Nm ( 18 ft. lb. )
7. Serpentine belt.
8. Brake booster vacuum supply at plenum.
9. Bracket at right side of plenum.
