Radiator: Service and Repair
Cleaning
At least yearly, the front face of the radiator should be cleaned. On vehicles with air conditioning, clean the front face of the condenser. It will collect any
debris before the radiator will. Bugs, leaves, etc.. can be removed by blowing compressed air through the radiator, from the rear toward the front of the
vehicle. If compressed air is not available, a water hose can be used to force water through the radiator from the rear toward the front of the vehicle. Use
water only with the engine not running and cool. The radiator fins are necessary for good heat transfer. They should not be brushed, as doing so damages
the fins and reduces heat transfer.
NOTE: It is important that the front of the radiator is kept clear for proper cooling.
