Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTION
The electric cooling fan is controlled by the PCM based on inputs provided by the intake air temperature sensor, the A/C refrigerant pressure sensor
and the vehicle speed sensor.
OPERATION
The fan will run when the engine coolant temperature is above 226°F, A/C is turned on and the vehicle speed is less than 70 mph or PCM is in
back-up mode. The fan will also run if any diagnostic trouble codes (DTC 14 ,15 or 70) are set, A/C pressure is greater than 187°F or engine coolant
temperature is in excess of 239°F. Fan operation is discontinued 30 seconds after engine coolant temperature drops below 219°F and when vehicle
speed exceeds 70 mph.
