Beretta V6-3100 31L VIN M SFI Crankshaft Position Sensor 3X
Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor 3X
Crankshaft Position Sensor Installation
PURPOSE
The 3X Crankshaft Position Sensor provides a signal through the electronic Ignition Control Module (ICM) which the Powertrain Control Module
(PCM) uses as reference to calculate RPM and crankshaft position.
DIAGNOSIS
The Tech 1 scan tool displays Crankshaft Position Sensor data as engine speed (RPM). An error in the Crankshaft Position Sensor circuit should
set a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 82.
3X Reference High Signal
The Ignition Control (IC) module receives signals from the 3X crankshaft position sensor located in the engine block. This signal is then
conditioned and sent to the PCM as a 5 volt digital signal. The PCM uses this input as part of it's final calculation for IC timing. Refer to
"Electronic Ignition (EI) System. See: Ignition System
