Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Disconnect shift linkage from transaxle.
3.
Disconnect electrical connector from back-up light/neutral start switch.
4.
Remove back-up light/neutral start switch attaching screws, then the switch.
5.
Ensure transaxle shift shaft is in Neutral position.
6.
If installing new switch, align new back-up light/neutral start switch flats with flats of shift shaft, then install switch. Torque attaching bolts to 22
ft. lbs.
7.
If used switch is being installed, proceed as follows:
a. Align back-up light/neutral start switch flats with flats of shift shaft, then install switch. Loosely install attaching bolts.
b. Insert 3/32 inch drill in service adjustment hole, then rotate switch until drill drops to a depth of 9/64 inch.
c. Torque attaching bolts to 22 ft. lbs.
8.
With either new or used switch, ensure engine will only start in Neutral and Start positions.
