ENGINE COOLANT SUBSTITUTES

Model and Year:

1989 CHEVROLET VEHICLES

TO:

ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

With the continuing shortage and increasing prices of ethylene glycol, several substitutes have appeared on the market.

These substitutes appear with many names and a variety of prices. Recognizing that price is a major consideration when purchasing required materials,
we caution dealers to assure that a bargain is indeed a bargain.

Many substitutes will require increased concentrations for freeze protection and may inhibit cooling capability.

Only ethylene glycol based coolants meeting the GM 1825M specification are approved for use in Chevrolet vehicles. Coolants which use substitutes for
ethylene glycol do not meet warranty requirements.

Dealership service managers are requested to provide parts ordering personnel a copy of this bulletin for their information and guidance.
