Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

CRANKSHAFT BALANCER (EXTERNAL) AND FRONT COVER OIL SEAL REPLACEMENT

TOOLS REQUIRED:

-

J 23523-F Crankshaft Balancer Puller 

-

J 22102 Front Cover Oil Seal Installer

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Negative battery cables.
2. Accessory drive belt.
3. Radiator shroud.
4. Bolts and crankshaft pulley.
5. Crankshaft balancer bolt and washer.
6. Crankshaft balancer. Use tool J 39046.
7. Front cover oil seal. Pry out the oil seal with a screwdriver.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. New front cover oil seal. Use tool J 22102. Lubricate the sealing area with engine oil. Apply engine oil to the crankshaft stub.

INSPECT

1. Crankshaft balancer sealing surface for grooving or roughness. Replace if necessary.
2. Crankshaft balancer. Tap into place with a mallet. Make sure the key is in place. Make sure the balancer is all the way on the crankshaft.
3. Crankshaft balancer bolt and washer.

TIGHTEN

-

Bolt to 270 Nm (200 lb. ft.). 

4. Crankshaft pulley and bolts.

TIGHTEN

-

Bolts to 40 Nm (30 lb. ft.).

5. Accessory drive belt.
6. Negative battery cables.
