Control Arm: Service and Repair
Upper Control Arm Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION:  Floor jack must rennin under the control arm spring seat during removal and installation to retain the spring and control arm
in position. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.

1. Raise the front of the vehicle.

Support the lower control arm with floor stands.

Because the weight of the vehicle is used to relieve the spring tension on the upper control arm, position the floor stands between the spring
seats and the bail joints of the lower control arms in order to maintain maximum leverage.

2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. 
3. Remove the air cleaner extension, if necessary.
4. Remove the brake hose bracket from the upper control arm.

4.1. Remove the nuts and the screws.
4.2. Tie the hose out of the way.

5. Remove the upper ball joint from the steering knuckle. 
6. Remove the attaching baits and nuts of the upper control arm.
7. Remove the upper control arm.
8. Remove the bushings.
9. Inspect all of the parts for wear and damage.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Install the bushings.
2. Install the upper control arm to the frame. 

Important:

The pivot bolts must be installed in the proper direction.

Tighten the front nut prior to tightening the rear nut.

NOTICE:  Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that
application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the
fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or
other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint
clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these
instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.

3. Install the bolts and new nuts. 

Tighten

Tighten the nuts with the control arm at Z height.

Tighten the nuts to 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.).

4. Install the upper ball joint to the steering knuckle. 
5. Install the brake hose bracket to the upper control arm.
6. Install tine' bracket screws and the nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).

7. Install the brake hose to the bracket.
8. Install the air cleaner extension, if necessary.
9. Install the tire and wheel assembly. 

10. Check the front wheel alignment.
