Oil Pan: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
IMPORTANT: Do not raise the engine by the crankshaft balancer to perform this service procedure. Damage to the crankshaft balancer or the
crankshaft may occur.
1. Open the hood.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery.
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
3. Remove the oil level indicator and tube from the engine.
4. Raise the vehicle.
5. Drain the crankcase.
6. Remove the starter from the engine block.
7. Remove the flywheel inspection cover if equipped.
8. Remove the oil filter and adapter (4WD) if equipped.
9. Remove the oil cooler line retainer from the retaining bracket.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT lift the engine by the crankshaft balancer to aid in removing the oil pan from the engine block. Damage to crankshaft
balancer or crankshaft could occur.
10. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
11. Remove the clutch if equipped.
12. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.
13. Remove the oil pan bolts from the engine block.
14. Remove the oil pan from the vehicle.
15. Remove the oil pan gasket from the engine block.
16. Remove the oil from the sealing surfaces. Refer to Engine Block Clean and Inspect under Engine Unit Repair.
