Torque Converter: Testing and Inspection
Torque Converter Vibration Test - 4L60-E Transmission
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
NOTICE: Some Engine/Transmission combinations cannot be balance in this manner, due to the limited clearances between the transmission torque
converter bolts and the engine. Be sure that the bolts do not bottom out in the lug nuts, or the transmission converter cover could be dented, and cause
internal damage.
1. Start the engine.
2. Place the transmission in P (Park) or N (Neutral).
3. Run the engine at idle speed.
4. Observe the vibration.
5. Shut OFF the engine.
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lift Points.
3. Support the vehicle with safety stands.
4. Remove the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement (Gasoline Engines) in Starting and Charging.
5. Remove the converter cover bolts.
6. Remove the converter cover.
7. Remove the torque converter to flywheel bolts.
Discard the flywheel bolts.
