4L80/4L80-E Transmission
TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT 4L80-E/4L80-EHD TRANSMISSION
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Raise vehicle, then drain fluid.
4. Remove shift linkage.
5. Remove propeller shaft.
6. Remove any component needed for clearance.
7. Support the transmission and transfer case, if equipped with suitable transmission jack.
8. Remove transmission crossmember.
9. Slowly lower transmission to reach and remove the following components:
a. Dipstick tube, seal and cooler lines.
b. Disconnect electrical connectors.
10. Remove transmission support brackets, note location for assembly.
11. Remove converter housing cover.
12. Scribe torque converter and flywheel for alignment.
13. Remove torque converter bolts.
14. Remove transmission retaining bolts, then transmission from vehicle by sliding straight off locating pins, then install converter holding tool, No.
J-21366 or equivalent.
15. Reverse procedure to install.
