HVAC System will not Heat Up or Cool Down Sufficiently (Adjust Temperature Control Cable)
MODELS:
1993-95 Chevrolet Camaro
1993-95 Pontiac Firebird
CONDITION
HVAC system may not heat up or cool down sufficiently.
CAUSE
The temperature control door may not be closing completely because the temperature control cable assembly may require replacement or adjustment.
CORRECTION
1.
Remove right instrument panel sound insulator assembly.
2.
Remove (1) screw that retains the temperature control cable to the bottom of the HVAC module. Remove the cable from the module to observe the
position of adjustment and check the date code.
3.
With the cable still attached to the HVAC control head, cycle the temperature knob between full cold and full hot to observe for proper movement
at the module end. If a binding is noted or the cable does not rotate freely, replace the cable. If the cable does NOT bind and rotates freely, set the
temperature knob to the mid detent position halfway between full cold and full hot.

Check the date code of the cable. This four digit number should be found either on the cable pulley or hot stamped on the cable conduit about 4"
from the pulley end (Figure 1). For date code numbers 4001 and less proceed with Section 1. For numbers larger than 4001 skip to Section II.
