 Intake Manifold Bolt Tightening Sequence

PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, drain cooling system and remove air intake duct.
2. Disconnect accelerator, cruise control and transmission cables, as equipped.
3. Disconnect air inlet duct and heater hoses at throttle body.
4. Disconnect and tag electrical connectors and vacuum hoses at throttle body and intake manifold.
5. Relieve fuel system pressure, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction / Fuel Presure Release then disconnect fuel lines.
6. Remove vent valve assembly and hoses.
7. Remove vapor pipe assembly.
8. Remove plenum extension.
9. Disconnect and tag spark plug wires at distributor cap.

10. Rotate crankshaft until No. 1 cylinder is at TDC on compression stroke, remove distributor cap and mark position of distributor rotor, then remove

distributor.

11. Loosen fuel rail retaining bolts and raise rail assembly.
12. Remove remaining manifold runners and the fuel rail assembly.
13. Remove ignition coil and EGR solenoid.
14. Disconnect upper radiator hose, then remove thermostat housing and gasket.
15. Remove EGR valve and pipe.
16. Disconnect all necessary electrical connectors and vacuum hoses, then remove manifold retaining bolts and the manifold.
17. Ensure surfaces are clean and dry, then apply 3/16 bead of RTV sealer, GM P/N 1052914 or equivalent, on each block ridge and apply suitable

sealer around water outlets, install gaskets and secure gasket position by extending bead of sealer approximately 1/2 inch onto gasket ends.

18. Install manifold and retaining bolts, ensuring areas between case ridges and manifold are completely sealed.
19. Torque manifold bolts to 47 Nm (35 ft lbs) in sequence shown in figure 3.
20. Reverse remaining procedure to complete installation.
