Manifold Pressure/Vacuum Sensor: Description and Operation

Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor
The MAP sensor supplies a varying DC voltage signal to the ECM representing manifold pressure----usually used in conjunction with a BARO
sensor.

When manifold pressure is low (high vacuum), sensor output voltage is low--under 1 volt.

When manifold pressure is high (low vacuum), sensor output voltage is high--4.5 volts.
NOTE: Turbocharged models are equipped with a MAP sensor with internal altitude compensation.
Vacuum Sensor
NOTE: If vehicle is not equipped with a MAP sensor, it may be equipped with a vacuum sensor--some systems may not use either.
Sensor produces low voltage--approximately 1 volt--when manifold vacuum is low, and higher voltages--approximately 4.5 volts--when vacuum is
high.
Normal output is 0.54-0.62 volts with ignition ON and engine stopped.
