Water Pump: Service and Repair
Water Pump Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Resonator and Outlet Duct Replacement (See: Tune-up and
Engine Performance Checks/Air Cleaner Housing/Air Cleaner Fresh Air Duct/Hose/Service and Repair/Air Cleaner Resonator and Outlet Duct
Replacement).
2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (See: Cooling System/Service and Repair/Cooling System Draining and
Filling).
3. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Accessory (See: Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and
Accessories/Drive Belt Tensioner/Service and Repair).
4. Remove the drive belt idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement (See: Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Idler
Pulley/Service and Repair).
5. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the water pump. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (See: Cooling System/Radiator Hose).
6. Disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the water pump. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (See: Cooling System/Radiator Hose).
7. Disconnect the heater inlet and outlet hose from the water pump. Refer to Heater Inlet and Outlet Hose Replacement (See: Cooling
System/Heater Hose/Service and Repair/Heater Inlet and Outlet Hose Replacement).
8. Remove the water pump to block bolts (1).
Note: Always clean the water pump and engine block mating surfaces and discard the gaskets.
9. Remove the water pump (2).
