Subject: Diagnosing and Repairing Airbag Readiness Light (SIR) Illuminated (Reprogram Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM))

Restraints).
Condition
Some customers may comment that the airbag readiness light (SIR) is illuminated.
Cause #1
When diagnosing the condition, the technician may find DTC B0079 SYM08 or DTC B0080 SYM08 stored in the SDM. This may be caused by a
calibration issue with the SDM.
Cause #2
When diagnosing the condition, the technician may find a lack of communication with the SDM. This may be due to a logic lock up within the SDM.
Correction #1
If DTCs B0079 SYM08 or B0080 SYM08 are not current codes, do not replace the seat position sensors or the SDM. Reprogram the SDM with the
latest calibration in TIS2Web.
After successfully programming the control module, ensure that all post programming procedures are performed; refer to Control Module References for
the appropriate control module Programming and Setup document for any required procedures.
Correction #2
Important
Do not replace the SDM for this concern.
Pull the AIRBAG fuse (F3 - located in the IP fuse block)
and wait two minutes , then reinstall the fuse. Verify that the SIR light turns off and that
communication is restored with the SDM, then clear all DTCs. Reprogram the SDM with the latest calibration in TIS2Web.
After successfully programming the control module,
ensure that all post-programming procedures are performed. Refer to Control Module
References for the appropriate control module Programming and Setup document for any required procedures.
