Pinion Gear: Service and Repair

Drive Pinion and Ring Gear Replacement

Disassemble Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle   (See: Maintenance/Vehicle Lifting/Service and Repair).
2. Remove the differential assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Differential Replacement   ().
3. Remove the pinion yoke and the seal. Refer to Drive Pinion Flange/Yoke and/or Oil Seal Replacement   (See: Pinion Flange/Service and Repair).

Note:  The ring gear bolts are left handed threads.

4. Remove the ring gear bolts (1) from the differential case (2).

5. Using a brass drift and a hammer, remove the ring gear (2) from the differential case (1).
