Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair
The cover oil seal may be replaced without taking off the front cover. After removing the vibration damper, pry out the old seal with a screwdriver.
Install the new seal with the lip or open end toward inside of cover and drive it into position.
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2.
Remove vibration damper and water pump.
3.
Remove oil pan and gasket as outlined.
4.
Remove timing cover retaining screws and the timing cover.
5.
Reverse procedure to install.
