This rear caliper, Fig. 1, consists of a single piston and an aluminum housing which is suspended in a mounting bracket through two slide pins.
Hydraulic pressure, created by applying force to the brake pedal, acts equally against the piston and the bottom of the caliper bore to move the piston
outward. This action slides the caliper inward, resulting in a clamping action on the brake rotor. This clamping action forces the linings against the rotor,
creating the friction necessary to stop the vehicle.
The parking brake mechanism on this caliper is completely independent of the hydraulic brake system. When the parking brake is applied, the lever on
the caliper causes the pushrod, actuating collar and clamp rod assembly to move outward. This causes the caliper to move inward, mechanically forcing
the linings against the rotor.
